Review: 2018 Acura MDX

Don’t let its understated appearance fool you – the Acura MDX is a beast of an SUV, with optional Super Handling All-Wheel Drive and a 9-speed automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift Paddle Shifters. The engine is a 3.5-liter V6 that churns out 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque, with a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.
Front-wheel drive models have a fuel economy of 19 MPG city and 27 MPG highway, while all-wheel-drive models get up to 19 MPG city and 26 MPG highway*.
The 2018 MDX will soon offer a hybrid option, the Sport Hybrid. It will have a 3.0-liter V6 engine combined with an electric motor, making a net 321 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque.
Comfort and Convenience
The new MDX comes as a standard model, with the option to add the Technology Package, Advance Package, or Entertainment Package. The standard model features a leather-trimmed interior, heated front seats, 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support and Easy Entry, 8-way power passenger’s seat, and Driver Memory System for seating, mirrors, audio, and climate. The standard seating setup includes second—row seating for three, giving you a total passenger capacity of seven, as well as a 50/50 split-folding third row. Another standard feature is third-row One-Touch Smart Slide Walk-In seating.
The Acura SUV is available with second-row Captain’s Chairs (for a total passenger capacity of six). You can also opt for a perforated leather-trimmed interior, perforated Milano Premium leather with contrast piping and stitching, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row outboard seats, and GPS-linked climate control.
Safety and Tech
Each model of the 2018 MDX comes equipped with a Multi-View Rear Camera with Dynamic Gridlines, Road Departure Mitigation, LED daytime running lights, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, and hill start assist. The Technology Package adds a Blind Spot Information System, Rear Cross-Traffic Monitor, rain-sensing wipers, and Remote Start.
The MDX with Advance Package has all the mentioned features, plus a Surround-View Camera System, CMBS Heads-Up Warning, and front and rear parking sensors.
