Comparison: 2018 Acura ILX vs 2018 Audi A3

Middletown drivers who want to enter the luxury market with a small sedan may want to know how Acura models compare to the competition. One factor that sets Acura apart from other luxury automakers is price transparency and value.
To demonstrate this, we’ve compared the 2018 Acura ILX to the 2018 Audi A3. Both compact luxury sedans have sleek styling and premium features, but once you start adding options, the price of the Audi creeps up considerably.
See our head-to-head comparison below, then visit us in Middletown to see why New Yorkers love the ILX.

Interior Space and Features

Acura ILX

The 2018 ILX comes as a standard model, as well as the following trims: Special Edition, AcuraWatch Plus, Premium, Technology Plus, and A-SPEC. It features an extra 2.3 cubic feet of cargo volume over the A3, as well as a couple more inches of front leg room, but that’s not all. The standard ILX includes two-level heated leatherette-trimmed seating, dual-zone climate control, Smart Entry, Active Sound Control, interior ambient lighting, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Upper trims feature perforated Milano Premium leather or perforated Lux Suede seating, seat position memory, GPS-linked climate control, a black headliner and aluminum pedals. Additionally, the new ILX is available with ELS Studio premium audio, SMS text message and email reading, a Voice Recognition System, Acura Navigation, AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic with Traffic Rerouting, and HomeLink universal transceiver.

Audi A3

The A3 trims include Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. While the lowest trim does come with leather seating, the Audi does not have a leather alternative, which drivers may regret when temps get too high or low. Additionally, even the highest trim does not include two-level heated front seats, and you would need to upgrade to an upper trim to get an auto-dimming mirror or ambient lighting.

The A3 Prestige, which adds more than $8,000 to the base price, includes Bang and Olufsen audio, MMI Navigation Plus, INRIX XD Traffic, and HomeLink. It is not available with SMS text or email reading, but the highest trim does include MMI touch with handwriting recognition.

Performance and Fuel Economy

Acura ILX

The ILX has one engine option: a 2.4-liter inline-4 that makes 201 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque, mated to a dual-clutch 8-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel drive sedan gets up to 25 MPG city and 35 MPG highway. *

Audi A3

The 2018 A3 has three gas engine options, all are 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4s, making a respective 186, 220, and 292 horsepower. But it’s worth noting that upgrading to the 292-horsepower variant pushes the cost to near $50,000. The variant with least ponies gets up to 26 MPG city and 35 MPG highway, while the most powerful version gets up to 21 MPG city and 28 MPG highway. *
